DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: It's the morning after one of the biggest shows in Hollywood. A lot of people are abuzz about the big winners at the Emmys. We are talking about who took home the best actor, the best actress. Today our focus on the fashion winners and loser. Hollywood stylist Phillip Bloch joins us to talk abut the best and worst dressed at the Emmys.
Phillip looking very dapper very early this morning. Good to see you.

PHILLIP BLOCH, HOLLYWOOD STYLIST: It's actually very late last night.

KAGAN: Just to be clear. Let's get right to it, so we can whip through as many of these dresses as we can.

First, best dressed, you think Jennifer Garner.

BLOCH: Jennifer Garner in her Narcesa Rodriguez (ph) dress, really beautiful, the 20s-style jewelry, fit like a glove. She looked so elegant. And after the Oscars where her dress didn't fit so good, she looked great last night.

And then, of course, everybody's sweetheart, Deborah Messing, absolutely gorgeous in her Ilasab (ph) gown. The pink and gold broquet (ph), very '50s glamour. Thought it was really incredible.

And then my favorite, I'm a little prejudice, Cheryl Heinz wore a beautiful Valentino c'tour (ph) gown.

KAGAN: Did you dress her, Phillip?

BLOCH: I did. I did. It's got the princess touch, you know, what can I say.

KAGAN: A little bias there, just had to call you out on that one.

But some people who didn't quite make it in your book, and I bet these are not people who you dressed, Stockard Channing, excellent on "The West Wing," but not so good.

BLOCH: Stockard Channing, you know, beautiful color. Carolina Herrera (ph) is a gorgeous designer. Amazing dresses for Renee Zelwegger, Salma Hayek, just didn't work on Stockard. It wasn't cut right. The shoulders looked big. Too closed up. The draping wasn't great at the waist. She looked a little matronly. And Kim Catrall in her beautiful Armani dress just not quite age appropriate. She looked like a stuffed in it. She was a sparkly sausage maybe. And the cutout didn't quite work.

But she's gorgeous and she looks great, but that dress on her body didn't quite work.

KAGAN: Well, she's gorgeous, and she usually hits it, too, we should say.

BLOCH: I love Kim Catrall, so stylish. I've worked with her so many times. She usually looks great, has a great spirit. I really want her to win, but the dress, I love Armani, I love Kim, but that dress didn't work together.

And Cynthia Nixon in the leather corset. I don't know about leather corsets in 90 degrees. It's a little hot for that.

And big earrings everywhere. Everybody had big, chandelier earrings, unbelievable, very gorgeous. I think it really worked.

KAGAN: And that was Kristen Davis. Was she wearing the big earrings?

BLOCH: Everybody was, except Sarah Jessica Parker, and he Chanelle c'tour (ph) dress, wore little tiny studs. You can always count on Sarah Jessica to be a little ahead of the trend. So in like two seasons, the rest of them will be back to minimal jewelry.

KAGAN: Well, and what about Sarah Jessica? She looks great in that one picture, but when she walked, she went one way and the dress went the other?

BLOCH: Well, Sarah Jessica said that she loved that dress because it reminded her of a big ball of cotton candy, and it sort of moved like a big ball of cotton candy. But only she can wear a dress like that and look that amazing. She really just pulls it off every time.

KAGAN: And then, finally, a woman who usually spends her time talking about other people's outfits, and yet Joan Rivers had a lot of plumage?

BLOCH: I believe she got those feathers from Bjork's Oscar dress a couple of years ago. She sort of looked like Bjork's grandmother, but with a modern hairdo.

And I think the great thing about last night, I just want to throw in Jane Kaczmarek is doing a special auction of all the dresses that the different celebrities wore, their tuxedos, et cetera, and it all goes to -- it's called "Clothes Off Our Back," and it's going to be on eBay starting tomorrow for 10 days of bidding. So you, too, can dress like a movie star. And all the money is going to go to autism, which is a great charity.

KAGAN: We will look for that. She was actually with us the day she was nominated and told us about that. So thanks for reminding us. Phillip Bloch. Phillip, thanks for being with us

BLOCH: Thanks a lot.
