Federal Judge Puts 'Do Not Call List' on Hold

WOLF BLITZER, CNN ANCHOR: We have this just in to CNN, a story that potentially could affect millions, perhaps tens of millions, of Americans. A federal judge in Oklahoma City, only within the past few minutes, has ruled that the national "do not call.gov" list, the list designed to prevent telemarketers from calling us at home especially, that that may not necessarily have been appropriate for the Federal Trade Commission to get involved in doing this.
The judge suggesting that the FTC, the Federal Trade Commission, may have overstepped its authority when it created the national "do not call list" against telemarketers. The telemarketers in a lawsuit, at least some of them, claimed that this was inappropriate government interference with trade. At least this judge right now in Oklahoma City is suggesting they may be right.

It was supposed to go into effect, as many of our viewers know, this week. Unclear what this ruling by this federal judge will have in the short term. Presumably, there could be appeals and legal action down the road.

But at least for now, one judge in Oklahoma suggesting that this "do not call" list is not appropriate. We'll continue to monitor this story for our viewers and get some more information as it becomes available.
