Huge Jump in Foul Language on Primetime TV

CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: OK, time to send the kids out of the room for this next story. You may have heard about a study showing a huge jump in foul language on prime time TV. Well, to read about a study like that is one thing, but to sit and count the bad words for three straight hours, well, that assignment went to CNN's Jeanne Moos.

JEANNE MOOS, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Remember when mom said to watch your language? Tell it to the TV.

MOOS (on camera): Oh, my goodness, did you hear that?

MOOS: That would be scatological language, I think.

MOOS: The watchdogs at the Parents Television Council are more scientific.

(on camera): They have six analysts who sit in cubicles with headphones on and they listen to tapes of the programs so that they can stop when they hear an offending phrase or word.

MOOS: The good news is that in every time slot, mild oaths and curses compromised a larger share of the foul language.
