DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Outside of Washington, Virginia police are looking for two men suspected of kidnapping a senator's wife and forcing her to withdraw money from a bank. One of the suspects entered the bank with Senator Judd Gregg's wife Kathleen. Security cameras got his picture. Gregg had been abducted at her home at knifepoint but was unharmed.
Captain Steve Lapovsky works for the Fairfax County Virginia Police Department and he joins us now. Captain, good morning.

CAPT. STEVE LAPOVSKY, FAIRFAX CO., VA. POLICE: Good morning.

KAGAN: Can you tell us how Mrs. Gregg is doing this morning?

LAPOVSKY: Mrs. Gregg is recovering. She's doing very well.

KAGAN: Let's go back to the beginning of this story. These two men were waiting for Mrs. Gregg inside the Gregg home.

LAPOVSKY: Well, actually, Mrs. Gregg was in her home when she was accosted by the two men there.

KAGAN: OK, so she's at home. Did they knock on the door? how Did they get in?

LAPOVSKY: I would rather not get into that. It's part of the investigation.

KAGAN: OK, I understand that. I'll just ask the questions and you tell me how much you can tell us as we go along the way. So somehow they -- I guess they had a knife. They had some type of weapon.

LAPOVSKY: Yes, they did. They did have a knife. They threatened her with the knife.

KAGAN: And they said, basically, take us to your bank?

LAPOVSKY: Yes, they forced Mrs. Gregg to go to her bank and forced her to withdraw some cash from the bank.

KAGAN: And when she was doing that, when she was at the bank, was she able to flag down anybody and indicate that she was in a very dangerous situation?

LAPOVSKY: Mrs. Gregg acted extremely well under a stressful circumstances was able to able actually get away from the one suspect and go to the part of the bank where she got safety.

KAGAN: So she did that in the bank. How was she actually able to do that?

LAPOVSKY: She just ran away, ran away from the one suspect.

KAGAN: And at that point that suspect fled, as did the other one who was waiting outside?

LAPOVSKY: That's correct.

KAGAN: I guess the very concerning thing besides this incident is that it's not isolated. You believe that these men have been targeting other people as well?

LAPOVSKY: Yes, we have, in fact, been able to link this case to a case in Arlington County, Virginia, and also a case in Alexandria City.

KAGAN: And so can you give us a description of the suspects you're looking for?

LAPOVSKY: The picture of the suspect, one of the suspects has been released. He's a black male, medium build. Approximately 5'6", 140 pounds. And another white male, again in his 20s, again medium build. That's what we have at this time.

KAGAN: And do you think in this case this was just random? They had no idea they were taking a senator's wife?

LAPOVSKY: Yes, we feel this was a random case.

KAGAN: And just so we can learn from this, because the suspects are still out there, the specific behavior that Mrs. Gregg exhibited, that possibly saved her life?

LAPOVSKY: Well, Mrs. Gregg did remain calm through very stressful situation. I believe that played a great part in her being able to escape.

KAGAN: And then finally, I understand there's also a vehicle description you can give us?

LAPOVSKY: Yes. A picture of a similar vehicle has been released. It's a 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with Virginia tags on it.

KAGAN: Do you have a tag number?

LAPOVSKY: Adam, David, Baker, 9712.

KAGAN: We wish you well in the search for those two men. Our best Mrs. Gregg. We're happy this had a safe ending for her. Thank you, captain. I appreciate the information.

LAPOVSKY: You're welcome.
