CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: An Oldsmobile, a bomb and someone determined to kill. A suicide bomber strikes an Iraqi police station near Baghdad. Officials now tell us eight people are dead.
Live to Baghdad now for an update and Harris Whitbeck.

Good morning -- Harris.

HARRIS WHITBECK, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning once again, Carol.

As you say, the Iraqi police say eight people are dead. There were about 32 people who were injured during that suicide bombing this morning. Some of the injured are in critical condition, and police officials expect the death toll to rise.

The way this occurred, apparently a blue Oldsmobile charged a checkpoint that was set up right before the police station. The driver of that car was able to get it inside the courtyard, and that's when the car blew up.

Iraqi police are now saying they can confirm it was a suicide bombing. They say that they were able to find the severed head of the suicide bomber.

Shortly after that explosion, U.S. soldiers arrived on the scene. That seemed to provoke the crowd. Some of the crowd started throwing stones at the U.S. soldiers. We also understand that some Western television cameramen who were in the area were also attacked, according to Associated Press. One of the ATPN cameramen was slightly wounded during that attack.
