CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: To Iraq now and another deadly day. Two more American soldiers were killed and four wounded. They were ambushed just hours after other fatal attacks.
Harris Whitbeck joins us now live with details -- Harris, what happened?

HARRIS WHITBECK, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Carol.

The soldiers were patrolling Sadr City, which, as you know, was the cite of a large explosion yesterday. They were on a routine patrol. They belonged to the Army's 1st Armored Division and apparently when they were ambushed, two soldiers died instantly and four more were severely wounded.

We also understand that at least two Iraqi nationals were killed during that incident, but the circumstances that surrounded their deaths are still not known and it is not clear what their relationship was or what their relationship was or what their -- to the U.S. soldiers and what their role was during that incident.

As I said, the soldiers were patrolling Sadr City, which only yesterday was the scene of a huge car bomb explosion at a police station there. Iraqi police saying at least eight people dead, several dozen wounded. Some of them are still in critical condition. And today the families of some of those police officers who were killed showed up to claim their bodies and to take them away for burial -- Carol.

LIN: All right, thank you very much.

Harris Whitbeck reporting live in Baghdad with the latest attack there on U.S. troops.
