CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: Flashing samurai swords, martial arts, girls on motorcycles. What's not to like about "Kill Bill"? it's the latest from filmmaker Quentin Tarantino. And Clint Eastwood has a tour de force in "Mystic River" which opens nationwide in five days. Mr. Moviefone, Russ Leatherman, joins us now with his film picks for the weekend. Hi there, Russ.
RUSS LEATHERMAN, "MR. MOVIEFONE": What's up, Party Girl?

LIN: What's up? Well what's up is Lucy Lui, man.

LEATHERMAN: I have to say, this is my favorite time of the year for movies. It's really the best time of the year. We have all of these great movies coming out, including the one you're talking about which is "Kill Bill." It stars Uma Thurman, this is a Quentin Tarantino movie. Really it's a revenge film. Her family is wiped out, her wedding party, and she's going to go after everybody responsible including Bill.

This is a fantastic movie if you're a Tarantino fan. It's really gory, but in a very stylized sort of way. So it's not the type of movie that is going to make you sick to your stomach. But it's just a cool, cool.

He loves movies. He's a great director. If you're into Tarantino you'll love "Kill Bill."

LIN: Yes, I hear this is a real breakthrough for him.

There she is! I'm telling you, girlfriend is changing the stereotype of Asian females. Singlehanded!

(LAUGHTER)

LEATHERMAN: You know what? She's great in this movie. Uma Thurman is fantastic. She really anchors the film. It's sort of a cartoony sort of movie but she play as real serious character and does a fantastic job. So if you like that stuff, you'll love "Kill Bill."

LIN: There you go.

In the meantime lots of Oscar buzz about "Mystic River."

LEATHERMAN: I saw this movie yesterday, and I just think it's fantastic. I love Clint Eastwood. He's a great American filmmaker.

This is a movie about three kids who share this tragic experience. They grow up. There's another tragic experience. And it's sort of how they are all brought together and how these experiences have affected their lives. Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon. They're all fantastic in this movie. I'm sure you will hear some Oscar nominations come out of this thing.

And the thing I really liked about it is I love the way Clint Eastwood directs movies. And like Tarantino, they love the craft, they love the arts. This is a serious movie. This is an adult movie. So if you're looking for some serious, great movie making you want to go check out "Mystic River."

LIN: All right, we're going to move "Intolerable Cruelty." Maybe a different review on this one with Catherine Zeta-Jones and George Clooney.

LEATHERMAN: Nope. I liked this one, too.

LIN: You did?

LEATHERMAN: I really did. I do love this time of year.

This is a romantic comedy. These are maybe the two most beautiful people on the planet. It's a Cohen Brothers movie. I was hoping for a little more sort of biting satire but it's really just a farcical comedy that happens to be pretty funny and pretty good. It's a light hearted movie.

So it's sort of the sorbet of the movie meal this weekend. After the blood and guts of "Kill Bill 1", go see this movie and you'll be cleansed somehow.

But, like I said, it's a great weekend. Check these movies out if you can.

LEATHERMAN: We're going to serve up dessert real quick here on "Good Boy." Talking dogs.

LEATHERMAN: Talking dogs from outer space. It's a family film. It's really geared toward very young kids, three and 4-years-old. I think it's a training movie for kids. Parents take your kids, teach them how to not scream in movies. When they scream, haul them out of the theater. Don't let them sit there and torture everybody in the audience.

But it's a good movie for training your kids how to see a movie. So I liked it for that.

LIN: OK. Thanks, Russ.

LEATHERMAN: You guys have a great weekend.

LIN: Hey, you too. And happy watching.
