CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: During last night's game, some fans at Yankees stadium began serenading the Red Sox with a chorus of "1918," a sarcastic reference to the last time Boston won the World Series. And since then, the Fenway faithful have known nothing but misery and disappointment. And the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry has been dominated by the legendary Curse of the Bambino.
Watch this.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Being a Red Sox fan is like a Charles Dickens novel -- everyone is just trying to survive the situation. For me, there's a psychological war in my own mind, dealing with each season.

LIN: All right, "The Curse of the Bambino" is the title of an HBO documentary looking at the pox on the Sox, and you can see it tonight at 11:30 Eastern.

The HBO documentary features psychics Diane Dalpe and Daphne Weld Nichols, who have worked tirelessly to end the curse on Fenway. They joins us from Boston this morning.

Good morning, ladies.

Hey, listen, I don't know that we did a good job of explaining it. I mean, the curse really came from when the Red Sox sold owner way back then sold young pitcher Babe Ruth to the Yankees, and ever since then, took a huge nosedive. Babe Ruth got the Yankees seven pennants and four World Series and the Red Sox cursed. So there you go.

So, ladies, you have singlehandedly I heard, ended the curse.

And, Diane, I want you to tell me how you did it.

DIANE DALPE, PSYCHIC, "CURSE OF THE BAMBINO": Well, OK. Well, we first have to go with the premise that probably there wasn't a curse. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. The more we think about it, the more it's passed on from generation to generation. And so what we do as energy healers, we try to change the energy that is surrounding No. 1, the ballpark, and we've been there five times, and we use different rituals. And over the last three times we used the smudge styx and sage and some of the things that you can see here. And then we introduced the feng shui, which is the principle of bringing chi, or energy into an area, and to kind of shift the energy, and that's basically what we were doing.

LIN: All right, Daphne, we didn't get a clear shot of what it is that you brought in. Can you show me some of the stuff that you used?

DAPHNE WELD NICHOLS, PSYCHIC, "CURSE OF THE BAMBINO": That's our feng shui kit.

DALPE: This is the kit that we used this time. And feng shui is based on the principles that there are eight parts to our life, and we focused here on the top part of the "bagwar," as it's called, which is fame and success, and we figure the Red Sox needed fame and success, and that's what we went for.

So in this particular instance, what we did is we moved energy with rattles.

NICHOLS: This is called a quartz crystal bowl. And if you've never seen one or heard one, they are beautiful. And they emit energy and sound healing, which is part of what we've done, too.

LIN: You know, I would leave if I heard that.

DALPE: Would you really?

LIN: Is it true, Daphne, that Major League Baseball actually asked you to come to Fenway?

NICHOLS: Yes, they did. Actually they did. In 2001 was the first time we were invited. We said, certainly. We are big Red Sox fans and happy as anything to go and do it. We've been there, as I said, five times now. And every time we've gone, we've been able to feel the energy lift.

And I personally understand that there is a curse. I understand and believe. Do you know that Plato talked about curses in "The Republic?" You know, it's an old belief, and there are curses on families. So a lot of it has to do with our own belief system. So we have broken through that belief system. Now it's really up to the Red Sox to go out and do it and have their best game ever.

LIN: So what happens if they don't win this year? Is it still a curse?

DALPE: Well, no, I don't think it has anything to do with the curse. It has with whoever the best players are and the best team.

LIN: Oh, well, that's cheating.

DALPE: No, no, no.

LIN: Wait a second. How do we know what you're doing is real?

DALPE: Because I think the attitude of people right now is beginning to change. People are beginning to feel this year that they can do it. It's the collective consciousness. Many minds thinking that we can do it, and then what we have done, is we have done a lot of ritual to remove the heaviness around Fenway Park, and we could feel that energy being lifted. I think that if you go back to the old ownership, there was a lot of negativity there. I think if you think about the changes that were made. There's new ownership now. Also there's been a lot of renovation. And feng shui, changing the environment, getting rid of the clutter, making things open makes a big difference.

LIN: All right, well, we just have to make sure that the Sox are pitching to the south.

All right. Thanks so much, Diane, Daphne, good luck. May the spirits be with all of us this weekend.
