CNN LIVE AT DAYBREAK

Eye on the Sky: Air Travel Delays

Aired October 13, 2003 - 06:43   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: If you are heading to Miami for that hip-hop thing, with your bling bling.
RALLY CAPARAS, AIR TRAFFIC SPECIALIST, TRAVELOCITY.COM: And the bling bling. I want to -- I want to clarify something for you.

COSTELLO: Yes.

CAPARAS: Bling bling is anything expensive, not just jewelry.

COSTELLO: Really?

CAPARAS: That's right. That's right.

COSTELLO: Hey, thanks for the hip-hop lingo update.

CAPARAS: You got it. You got it.

COSTELLO: Now for travel delays.

CAPARAS: Delays today, folks, it looks like it's going to be a fantastic day to travel and to be on time. There will be some locations with some delays. Let's get to those right now.

At Newark's Liberty Airport, Runway 1129 is under construction. It's supposed to open up right around 2:00 Eastern Time, so expect 30 to 45-minute arrival delays until that time. And then schedules should run on time for the peak period during the evening rush, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Eastern, so good news there.

Boston to Atlanta and all the major airports in between, good conditions, on-time flight schedules all day and evening long. Seems like we've gotten into a groove about that. It is that time of the year where we should see some good schedules in the east for a change.

Tampa and Orlando, they will see delay-free conditions early, but isolated thunderstorm activity is expected in central Florida, much as it was over the weekend. Expect 30 to 45-minute arrival and departure delays as a result.

Houston's George Bush, they are delay free right now, but that will change later on also. There will be some en route thunderstorms to the west, some clouds moving in from the west, and that will create 30 to 45-minute arrival and departure delays there.

But the western half of the United States, from Houston points west, excellent conditions all day long. I'll be back tomorrow morning with the latest "Eye on the Sky" -- Carol.

COSTELLO: We'll be right here waiting.

CAPARAS: I know you will.

COSTELLO: Thank you, Rally, we appreciate it.
