DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Want to bring you the latest now from Gaza and Israel. Three Americans were killed in Gaza today. A roadside bomb ripped through a diplomatic convoy. This is believed to be the first attack aimed at Americans since the most recent Palestinian uprising began.
Our Chris Burns is live in Gaza City with the latest.

Chris, hello.

CHRIS BURNS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Daryn, very, very troubling and terrifying sight to be up close. We got a close look at the twisted, tortured wreckage of that SUV that was blown to smithereens. The engine block was even blown away from the vehicle. Hard to believe that one person did survive in that bombing. Three Americans killed, one injured, in stable condition, but seriously injured.

U.S. officials say that these four were part of a private security detail that were escorting American officials. It was a three-vehicle American convoy that was led by Palestinian police. Once the Palestinians passed that certain point, the explosion went off, destroying that vehicle.

Now, this attack, the claim for that attack, is very unclear. There's one being claimed by a Palestinian group called Popular Resistance, but it is not confirmed. On the other hand, Hamas militants denied they had anything to do with it.

But also troubling is that FBI officials came to the site to investigate. They were stoned, as well as journalists who were stoned, surrounded by hundreds of angry people from the area.

The response from the Palestinian Authority is they condemn that attack. They want the Americans to investigate it with them. The Israelis, of course, also condemning the attack.

The American embassy in Israel calling on all Americans to leave Gaza, saying it's much, much too dangerous. This being the first attack against American officials during this three-year-old Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation.

Back to you.

KAGAN: Chris Burns, bringing us the latest from Gaza City. Thanks you for that.
