CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: President Bush is on his thank-you tour. He's due in Australia's capital a little more than an hour from now. He's heading there after a brief stop in Indonesia, where met with the president, Megawati. During that stop, he talked about the global war on terrorism.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: Terrorists who claim Islam as their inspiration defile one of the world's great faiths. Murder has no place in any religious tradition. It must find no home in Indonesia.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

COSTELLO: When he arrives in Australia, President Bush will meet with the prime minister, John Howard, of course, a key ally in the war on terrorism. And after Australia, it's on to Hawaii, where the president will be thanking Mother Nature for the great weather.

But we want to talk about how the world saw his round trip of Asia. Our senior international editor, David Clinch, joins us with more on that.

DAVID CLINCH, CNN SENIOR INTERNATIONAL EDITOR: Yes, Carol. Well, as we're saying, President Bush is going to Australia today. This gives me an opportunity to reveal -- I teased you earlier with this -- to reveal what David Clinch and President Bush have in common.

COSTELLO: I'm dying to know.

CLINCH: Are you ready?

COSTELLO: I am.

CLINCH: We don't need the (UNINTELLIGIBLE) for this. Rugby.

COSTELLO: Oh.

CLINCH: We both played rugby in college. President Bush, believe it or not, at Yale, 1968 I think it was, was the year that he played. You can see him there. If you look very closely, he's in the middle of the back.

COSTELLO: Gosh, they look like jail inmates.

CLINCH: Isn't that great? Yes, they do. He actually was a great rugby enthusiast in college and still is. And now, what's the connection? As you probably well know, the Rugby World Cup is going on in Australia at the moment.

COSTELLO: Yes.

CLINCH: You knew that, right?

COSTELLO: Oh, of course.

CLINCH: Well, I knew that because I'm a rugby enthusiast, and President Bush knows that. And, in fact, he had said, when this Australia trip came up and he was speaking to Prime Minister Howard, he had said he would love to attend a game while he was there.

Now, there is a game while he's there, but it doesn’t look like he's going to get an opportunity, certainly not to see the United States play. I'm sure you knew the United States was in the Rugby World Cup. They're not doing well. They've lost two games so far, probably out very soon. They're not playing while he's there. There is a game while he's there in Canberra. There are rumors that he's trying to get a ticket to go, but it doesn't look likely that he'll be able to go.

COSTELLO: I'm sure if he really wanted to get a ticket, he probably...

CLINCH: Oh, no, I'm sure he could get a ticket. It's just a question of timing and security and everything else. So, we'll see. But it could be, well, great for him...

COSTELLO: Well, hopefully so. That might, you know, give the Australians something to love him

CLINCH: Well, absolutely.

COSTELLO: Because right now, he's not beloved in Australia.

CLINCH: That certainly is true, and I think he probably would take the opportunity if he gets it certainly to talk about it if he doesn't go. But one of the great things for him is, even if he doesn’t go, he's able to watch it during the daytime as opposed to the middle of the night, when I have to wake up to watch the rugby because it's on at 2:00 in the morning.

But he is watching. He may go, probably not. But we might hear him talk about rugby while he's there.

COSTELLO: Well, we hope so. I hope he gets to have a little bit of fun on this Asia tour.

CLINCH: Absolutely.

COSTELLO: Thank you very much, David Clinch.

CLINCH: All right.
