Violence Overnight in Gaza

CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Violence overnight in Gaza. Palestinian gunmen slip into a Jewish settlement and kill three soldiers and wound two more.

JERROLD KESSEL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hello, Carol.
And it's more of the same, more of the deadly same, you might say down in Gaza amid a slew of shooting incidents reported by both sides. We've got three Israeli soldiers killed, two Palestinians killed outside Jewish settlements. The most serious of the incidents was when two, apparently two Palestinian gunmen penetrated the perimeter fence of one of the main Jewish settlements there, Netzarim settlement, just outside Gaza City, opened shooting on their way. Apparently there were soldiers who were part of the detachment that were in that Jewish settlement. Killed two women soldiers, another male soldier, wounded two other soldiers, one of them seriously before one of the gunmen was shot dead. The other managed to get away, according to Palestinians.
The two radical Islamic groups, Hamas and Islamic Jihad, claiming responsibility for this attack on the Jewish settlement. There was another incident outside another Jewish settlement further south in the Gaza Strip in which a Palestinian was shot and killed. The circumstances not entirely clear in that incident.
But this very much the pattern of stepped up activity and more and more clashes again emerging in, particularly in the Gaza district -- Carol.
