CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Of course the fire also messing up some flights heading towards the West Coast.
Rally Caparas, Travelocity's Air Traffic Expert, here to tell us more about that.

RALLY CAPARAS, AIR TRAFFIC SPECIALIST, TRAVELOCITY.COM: I guess that's what hazard pay is all about -- Carol?

COSTELLO: You are not kidding, they were lucky.

CAPARAS: Well, Carol, you know contrary to popular belief, it's not the fire and the smoke that's caused all the delays in the Los Angeles basin and all the airports out there. What happened is they closed the southern California TRACON down. That's the busiest approach control in the country, actually in the world, and they had to reduce the amount of traffic into and out of the region. It's back open. It's been back open since 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time yesterday. Delays were negligible yesterday. We saw virtually no delays into and out of those airports.

Today, Los Angeles and San Diego, John Wayne -- John Wayne -- John Wayne Orange County Airport, they will see some minor 30 to 45- minute arrival and departure delays. Morning fog, haze and smoke are the primary problems there. In the p.m., we'll see on-time schedules. So no fears, things should run smoothly into and out of the West Coast.

Now to the East Coast, Boston, New York City and well, the New York City Metros, all three of those airports, expect 45-minute arrival and departure delays. That could be as much as an hour. Low clouds, rain, poor visibility all day long.

Further south at Philadelphia and the D.C. Metros, you can expect to experience 30 to 45-minute arrival delays, low clouds and rain this morning. And then by the p.m. hours, we'll see on-time schedules, so great news in the east.

The nation's midsection, beautiful conditions from coast to coast, excluding the immediate coastlines. On-time schedules at all the major airports in between.

And then up in the Pacific northwest, Seattle-Tacoma will see what they typically see this year, low clouds, rain, some airborne holding of about 30 minutes for you. Just a little bit of a delay, nothing major there.

Overall, a pretty decent day under the circumstances.

I'll be back tomorrow morning with the latest 'Eye on the Sky.'

COSTELLO: Yes. We appreciate it. Thank you -- Rally.

CAPARAS: You are very welcome.
