CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Time now, though, to check on what's making headlines overseas in this morning's 'Euro Edition.' Let's head live to London and Becky Anderson.
Good morning -- Becky.

BECKY ANDERSON, CNN CORRESPONDENT: A very good morning, Carol, thank you for that.

And the story hitting the headlines in the U.K. is the one of the lack of effective opposition at present in the U.K. against Tony Blair, of course. There is a vote of confidence or there has been a vote of confidence in the current leader of the Conservative Party. He lost that. He is now out. That's Iain Duncan Smith.

And it looks as if this is the man who will lead the Tories against Tony Blair going forward. Howard is set to lead the Tories. That's a man called Michael Howard. The "Daily Mirror" headline today goes like this, Dracula stakes his claim (INAUDIBLE) IDS is buried. Dracula because one of his fellow MPs has dubbed him Dracula after she said there was something of the night about Michael Howard. He is, of course, the son of Transylvanian parents. Clever little headline there by the "Daily Mirror."

COSTELLO: Yes.

ANDERSON: The other story on the front of the "Daily Mirror" today is that the announcement that it's a boy, exclusive. Paul McCartney has a baby a month early, or his wife, of course, has a baby a month early. Heather Mills gave birth to a son a month early yesterday after an emergency cesarean, and the baby expected to be called Joseph. Mom and the boy both doing fine, apparently.

The story in "The Times" today we thought we would show you is the one of the miners emerging into the sunlight yesterday. A wonderful picture here of one of those rescued miners. A pretty miraculous story I think we'll all agree yesterday, and his face covered in coal dust there as he sort of comes out, looking fairly confused, I would suggest, by the whole thing.

And the other story -- sorry.

COSTELLO: No, go on, I'm listening. I'm fascinated. Go ahead.

ANDERSON: (INAUDIBLE). OK, and the other story here today is the one in the "Daily" -- it's in "The Independent" today, a wonderful picture of some fairly cuddly looking polar bears. Of course we know that they are not particularly cuddly creatures in reality. But this a story by some scientists who are now suggesting that the ice in the Arctic is melting and it seems that they are predicting the imminent demise of the polar bear. They are suggesting that global warming, together with the situation of the Arctic at present, is leading to the melting of the ice, and it looks as if these polar bears may not have a natural habitat going forward. Nice picture for you there today -- Carol.

COSTELLO: Yes, all right. Becky Anderson, many thanks, very interesting this morning.
