CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: Well the fires obviously are far from out, but already, the arson investigation has begun. Joining us with that part of the story is Sergeant Dave Caddel of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Dave, I hope we have your name correctly. I know we've just got you on the phone.
SGT. DAVE CADDEL, SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPT.: Yes, you do.

LIN: All righty. Good enough. We're going to show our right now audience a picture of a suspect that your department has handed out. Can you tell us more about this person?

CADDEL: Actually, the latest information is on that flier you're showing the public right now. There were some bad reports yesterday that the suspect was in custody. I want to get it out that there is nobody in custody on this call. And we're still looking for the subject. We have not focused on any individual as the primary suspect.

LIN: Tell us more about why you think this is the man who may have started the fire.

CADDEL: Basically we have two witnesses that saw a person matching this description driving a van, and the passenger threw something out of the van that started this fire back on Saturday, the 25th.

LIN: This is the big fire that's burning right now in the San Bernardino County area?

CADDEL: Yes, ma'am.

LIN: All righty. How big is that fire right now?

CADDEL: You know what? It's changing. It's consumed thousands of acres. I'd have to get an update from the fire chief.

LIN: All right. So how much reward are you offering in case someone turns this guy in and he goes to trial and is convicted?

CADDEL: Well originally the Board of Supervisors for San Bernardino County offered $50,000. And then we had a private citizen come up to the table and give an extra $10,000. And yesterday Jack Brown, the CEO for Stater Brothers kicked in another $50,000. So the total reward right now if $110,000.

LIN: Any calls yet?

CADDEL: We received well over 500. Our investigators are following up on every credible tip.

LIN: How do you possibly sift through that much information?

CADDEL: We have a phone bank of 15 people that are answering calls. And we have numerous teams out following up on each and every lead.

LIN: Any good leads so far? What would you consider a good lead in this case right now?

CADDEL: Anything that seems credible we're following up on. We followed up on each and every one. And to date, nothing has panned out, so we would still like the public to call that number. And that phone number we would like the public to call is 866-346-7632.

LIN: All right. Dave, it's still a very serious situation out there. One of the biggest fires going right now in the state of California. What is going to make the difference to turn this tide?

CADDEL: You know, talking to the fire investigators, Mother Nature. And right now, the temperatures are dropping. They anticipate some rain early tomorrow afternoon. So with any luck from Mother Nature, it will help us get a handle on this.

LIN: All right. Sergeant Dave Caddel, we wish you the best of luck. Also in the hunt for the suspect. The reward being offered now is $110,000. You can call the number on your screen, 866-346-7632.
