SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Let's get right back to our top story this morning, the California wildfires. In the area east of Los Angeles, raging fires have now consumed about 600 homes. They've forced more evacuations.
Miguel Marquez is live for us in Lake Arrowhead in San Bernardino County this morning -- Miguel, good morning.

MIGUEL MARQUEZ, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning.

We kind of have an up side and a down side. On the up side, we have very cold conditions today and it's also very humid, which is obviously good. On the down side, it's very windy with very erratic winds. The humidity, you can see on our drive in, very heavy fog, which will help in some areas, but, of course, it's not foggy everywhere up here.

The old fire has burned through almost 50,000 acres at this point. There was a report yesterday that 850 homes officially have been destroyed, but only 35 damaged. And we understand that yesterday they had a bad day here in Lake Arrowhead. Some 300 homes may have been destroyed, possibly even more than that. Firefighters saying that today is going to be another difficult day for them. Lake Arrowhead is surrounded by flames coming in from the north, east and west, and they're just hoping that they can cut enough line, do enough burn out operations so they can get ahead of this thing.

But the winds are going to make it tough -- Soledad.

O'BRIEN: All right, Miguel Marquez.

Of course, we'll continue to check in with you.

Thanks.
