DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: It was a box office smash last weekend, "Scary Movie 3" grossing almost $50 million. "Scary Movie 4" starts production early next year. Now that's scary!
What else could be better for a Halloween weekend than a director's cut DVD release of one of the scariest movie ever? With us live, our friend Mr. Moviefone dressed up as Russ Leatherman.

RUSS LEATHERMAN, "MR. MOVIEFONE": Mr. Moviefone!

KAGAN: The costume is right on, Russ.

LEATHERMAN: Is it working?

KAGAN: It's working for me. Looking good. Tell me about the DVD coming out.

LEATHERMAN: Are you talking about "Alien," the director's cut?

KAGAN: I think we are.

LEATHERMAN: It's in theaters.

(CROSSTALK)

LEATHERMAN: It's limited release, a director's cut. Ridley Scott made this is movie. And this is a movie that really stands the test of time. If you have ever seen "Alien" it's perfect for the big screen, scary, lots of suspense, got the thing that comes out of her belly.

This is a movie you should go check out. It's got new scenes that were deleted from the first movie. It's just a great, great Halloween flick. If you want to be scared, want some real terror, kind of a good down-home horror flick. This is the one to go check out.

KAGAN: Looking for some old fashioned horror flick value, go see the old "Alien."

LEATHERMAN: That's what I'm talking about.

KAGAN: I think that's what you are. OK, how about "Human Stain," the new Nicole Kidman movie coming out?

LEATHERMAN: A lot of people have been talking about this movie, lots of Oscar buzz. Anthony Hopkins, Nicole Kidman, Ed Harris. Great cast in this movie. He play as professor who has been keeping a secret for 50 years. And I'm going to go ahead and give away the secret because people have read the book.

(CROSSTALK)

LEATHERMAN: Here's the deal, OK, Anthony Hopkins -- the reason I couldn't get into this movie is because Anthony Hopkins is playing a black man and Nicole Kidman is playing a janitor, OK?

Talk about bad casting. It is a movie that has great moments but it's one of the movies you are sort of sucked into that all of a sudden you're shocked back into reality, because you're thinking, you know what? These people cannot be these characters.

So I think the movie has moments but I just didn't think that they were particularly believable. So that's me. What do I know?

KAGAN: Something for the family, "Brother Bear."

LEATHERMAN: Funny, my 10-year-old said to me, Dad, I believe this movie was derivative and cliche.

KAGAN: He did not.

LEATHERMAN: He did which proves he is already smarter and a better movie dude than I am.

KAGAN: Did he understand what he was talking about?

LEATHERMAN: I did understand what he was talking about. This is another Disney movie, it's got the obligatory Disney death at the beginning of the movie. Boy dies and he thinks the bear killed his brother so he goes and tries to hunt the bear and the gods make him turn into a bear so he learns the bears' way and now the bears are good, and on and on and on.

It's a decent movie. It is cliche and derivative. You have seen all this stuff before. And it may be one of the last times we see sort of the 2-D animation. It's not "Finding Nemo," it's not the 3-D Pixar beautiful stuff. Frankly the kids are sort of getting bored with the stories in 2-D animation. Go check out "Brother Bear," it may be one of the last times you see this kind of movie.

KAGAN: Derivative and cliche. All right, we'll remember that.

Quickly, about "Scary Movie 3." Big at the box office but is it worth anybody's money, really?

LEATHERMAN: Yes. I thought it was pretty funny. If you're looking for laughs at the movies on this Halloween, definitely go check it out. Biggest October opening ever. So movie goers can't be that wrong.

KAGAN: Just quickly, your favorite scariest movie of all time? LEATHERMAN: Probably "The Omen," but let me go through a very quick list here. "The Omen," "The Shining," "The Exorcist," "Night of the Living Dead," "What Lies Beneath" is a good movie.

And "House of a Thousand Corpses" is now out on DVD. It's our cameraman's favorite movie of all time, but he's sort of a freak.

But you're going to like this movie. Lots of good stuff out there. Have a good time. Happy Halloween.

KAGAN: My idea of a scary movie is like "Sound of Music." That's about as intense I get.

LEATHERMAN: Those are some issues we'll talk about off air.

KAGAN: We will talk another time. Russ, thank you. And keep developing the young Mr. Moviefone

LEATHERMAN: I will.

KAGAN: Have a great Halloween.
