JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: It's time to go across the pond. Richard Quest has more on this story. It's Friday, and he's "Over There."
Richard -- what have you got?

RICHARD QUEST, CNN CORRESPONDENT: It cost me good money to buy this heap of royal tittle-tattle, Jack, the best part of $30 to buy a royal duty, but it's pretty much obligatory reading if you want to have anything to do with the royal family at the moment.

We have been treated to the most enormous amount of gossip about the royal family. For instance, did you know the correct way to serve tea is with the cup and saucer handles facing at 5:00? Paul Burrell in his...

CAFFERTY: I knew that.

QUEST: Well, you see, that's -- listen, Paul Burrell tells us that President Reagan was nervous when he went to meet the queen. Nancy Reagan had to give him a push and said, go over and talk with Queen Elizabeth. That's the sort of thing that's in this book.

It hasn't stopped the papers. Just look. This week, we have had so many. There's been days and days and days...

CAFFERTY: This guy's kind of a worm, isn't he, Richard?

QUEST: I think most people in Britain do believe that Burrell has sort of taken that approach. There will be this meeting. There will be this meeting between Burrell and Prince William at some point over the next few weeks. We don't know exactly when.

One person in the royal circles, I was talking to privately last week, put it to me like this: The biggest mistake the royal family made was shutting Burrell out. If they had kept him on the inside, then he would have been, if you like, an acquiescent worm. Now, of course, the worm has turned.

CAFFERTY: Yes. David Beckham, biggest hotel bill in western civilization that we know of. What's that about?

QUEST: How much can you spend in a hotel? In 80 days, David Beckham, the footballer, spent the best part of $750,000, running about 9,000 a day. And look at what he spent it on.

CAFFERTY: That's a lot of in-room movies, isn't it? QUEST: Well, $11,623 worth of in-room movies to be precise. Extras -- this is the best thing. Extras came to $140,000.

Now, I've worked this out, because I know you're a man who might be occasionally visiting the mini-bar. You could effectively, Jack, clear the mini-bar out a thousand times.

CAFFERTY: He's not...

QUEST: If you...

CAFFERTY: The nice thing is, though, he doesn't have to pay this, does he? Ssomebody else is paying it.

QUEST: Well, he does. No, it comes out of his money, but he does earn several hundred thousand a month. So, he's not broke.

The other thing is if he decided to take those robes that they delicately put in the bathroom, he could take at least 2,500 of them and still be...

CAFFERTY: How many of those do you have in your closet, I'm curious? Those robes th at you swing with from hotels?

QUEST: More than one. It's just, as well.

CAFFERTY: Well, that's a pretty good answer. I figured you were just going to deny the whole thing.

SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: He took a little pause to think about it calculating it.

CAFFERTY: You've (UNINTELLIGIBLE). Richard, good to see you. I'll see you next week. Richard Quest "Over There."

QUEST: Thanks, Jack.
