CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: More attacks in Iraq this morning. A soldier from the Army's 4th Infantry Division is dead, another wounded in Tikrit. And there have been other attacks, as well.
For the latest, let's head live to Baghdad and Matthew Chance -- hello, Matthew.

MATTHEW CHANCE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Carol, thank you.

The latest information we have is that some kind of roadside bomb was detonated as the convoy of U.S. soldiers went past in Baghdad, killing at least one of them, injuring another one. The injured individual has been taken away, evacuated to a medical facility in this city. We understand that the dead soldier came from the 1st Armored Division. We'll bring you more details on that story when we have it. We've been hearing so many stories, though, that have been events that have been undermining the sense of security in this country.

It's not just U.S. soldiers that are coming under attack, though. We're also seeing Iraqi civilians feeling some pressure, as well. That takes us to Karbala, a town in the south -- to the south of the Iraqi capital, about 60 miles to the south, where U.S. officials say a bomb exploded there outside a hotel and near a mosque in this very holy city for Iraqi Shiite Muslims.

We understand that at least three people we're killed there and 12 others injured, none of them associated with the coalition forces on the ground. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why this insurgency that is being faced by U.S. soldiers and Iraqi civilians isn't altogether popular. In fact, opinion on the streets of Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, is mixed about the values of this kind of resistance.

COSTELLO: Matthew Chance reporting live from Baghdad this morning.
