CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: In health news this morning, when you think of healthy snacks, you probably don't think of potato chips and Doritos, but that may be changing.
Nutritionist Lisa Drayer of Dietwatch.com live in New York with the low down.

Really?

LISA DRAYER, NUTRITIONIST: Hard to believe, right, Carol?

COSTELLO: Unh.

DRAYER: But it's true. That is according to Dr. Kenneth Cooper of the Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas, Texas. Cooper worked closely with PepsiCo, the parent company of Frito-Lay, to develop a sensible snacking standard where all sensible snacks contain per one one ounce serving 150 calories or less, five grams of fat or less -- sounds a little bit high, but those fats are from the polyunsaturated fats, the good fats such as sunflower oil and corn oil, a limit of one gram of saturated fat, no trans fats. We've heard about those and how bad those are. And 240 milligrams of sodium or less.

And so as a result of this, all products that meet this standard can display a logo. So now when we see the new baked Doritos or baked Lays, we see the sensible snacking logo here and a nice quote from Dr. Cooper on the back stating the importance of nutrition and physical fitness.

COSTELLO: Oh, so there's the catch, it has to be baked potato chips, not the really good kind.

DRAYER: Exactly. Although the baked Lays always met the criteria, but it was the baked Doritos and the baked Tostitos, those had to eliminate those trans fats and they had to use corn oil instead. But one thing, Carol, it's really important to pay attention to the actual serving size. You know, I picked up these Doritos and I saw the logo, got really excited, looked at the back and then I saw 170 calories and 300 milligrams of sodium. Now, it doesn't sound that offensive, but, in fact, it is more than the standard. Well, then I looked at the bottom and saw one and three eighths of an ounce. Now, the standard is based on one ounce.

So the bottom line is this is one serving, but if you eat the whole bag, you're eating more than that standard.

COSTELLO: OK, so the bottom line is you can eat baked Lays but only half the bag and then you're OK?

DRAYER: Right. Or in this case, a fifth of the bag. Here there's four and a half servings per container. It doesn't look that big, but if you eat the whole bag, even though it says 160 calories per serving, you're consuming over 700 calories.

COSTELLO: Yes, but, you know, once I start eating Fritos, the whole bag is gone. I mean who can eat just half a bag?

Lisa Drayer...

DRAYER: I couldn't tell you who.

COSTELLO: Exactly.

Lisa Drayer, many thanks.

We appreciate it.

DRAYER: Thank you.
