HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: Several thousand Marines will be deployed to make up for the lack of international military commitments. News of the rotation comes as U.S. troops conduct raids to find those responsible for recent attacks.
Our Matthew Chance is joining us now live from Baghdad with the very latest.

Hello once again -- Matthew.

MATTHEW CHANCE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Heidi, thank you.

And those U.S. forces already on the ground here in Iraq are facing an increasing insurgency from the ground here in areas of Iraq, and they've been conducting raids to pick up those individuals they believe are responsible for some of the violence.

There have been three separate operations to the northwest of the Iraqi capital near the town of Baquba (ph) over the course of the last day or so. U.S. Army personnel saying they moved in three separate operations and arrested three people, a suspected bomb maker, a suspected rebel commander and another individual associated they say or believed to be associated with attacks against U.S. forces on the ground.

Quite dramatic pictures of that nighttime -- one of those nighttime operations to lift these individuals. The U.S. coalition forces say they're looking for the people who are masterminding, who are behind these strings of increasing attacks against U.S. forces.

In Fallujah, the flashpoint town about 60 miles to the west of Baghdad, another two people were arrested in similar raids, said to be former generals of the U.S. Army. It's not known what the significance is of these two individuals or even what their names are at this stage. They have not been disclosed.

But, again, U.S. Army officials are saying they're determined to pick up those responsible for the insurgency -- Heidi.

COLLINS: And, Matthew, later on today the 15 soldiers that were killed on Sunday in that helicopter crash will be remembered by their comrades.

CHANCE: Well, that's right, 15 soldiers who were killed when their Chinook helicopter was blasted out of the skies near to the flashpoint town of Fallujah on Sunday here. Eyewitnesses at the scene who witnessed that incident say it was a surface-to-air missile, a very sophisticated device that was fired at the helicopter and brought it down in fields outside of Fallujah. U.S. authorities say they're still investigating the incident.

But members of the Armored Cavalry Brigade up there in that area are holding a ceremony to mark the deaths of their colleagues.

COLLINS: All right, Matthew Chance coming to us live from Baghdad. Thanks so much for the update on all of that.
