CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Time now for a little 'Business Buzz.' One Hollywood heartthrob is for sale.
Carrie Lee has the story live from the Nasdaq market site.

Where do you come up with these stories?

CARRIE LEE, CNN FINANCIAL NEWS CORRESPONDENT: Ethan Hawke, Carol, well his movie is for sale, let's be clear about this. Producers of the next Ethan Hawke movie, "Billy Dead," which is a murder mystery, have started selling shares in this film over the Internet. And this is a new method of financing, believed to be the first public offering for a stake in an individual film.

Now the shares cost $8.75 each with a minimum order of 100 shares, so $875. Underwriter Civilian Capital expects to sell 900,000 shares in the film, raising $7.2 million. If you are interested in getting more information, its prospectus perhaps, you can go to www.civilian.com. Civilian has sold about $50,000 worth of shares so far. The average investment $2,500.

Before people get too excited about this, Carol, though, most independent films do not make money. "The Blair Witch Project," "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" two exceptions. Most of them don't make money. No word on whether investors get their name on the credits or not. But if you like Ethan Hawke, if you want to take a gamble, Civilian.com is the place to go.

COSTELLO: Yes, could just be an ego thing.

LEE: Yes, and well maybe people want to get involved with it. Some people disoriented with the stock market, with mutual funds, a little bit of a different idea. You have got to give them credit for thinking outside of the box or the box office, I guess.

COSTELLO: That was a good one. Thank you -- Carrie.

LEE: Thank you.

COSTELLO: We appreciate it.
