CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: This is a national day of mourning in Italy. Right now funerals are being held for those 19 Italians killed in the suicide bombing of a building in Iraq's Nasiriyah.
Let's head live to Rome and Paul Hancocks.

Actually, she's on the phone with us -- Paula.

Paula, are you there?

We're going to try to get Paula a little later on. But there is a huge funeral going on in Rome right now, 19 coffins. Government officials are there and others.

Do we have Paula now?

PAULA HANCOCKS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hello, Carol, yes.

Can you hear me?

COSTELLO: I can hear you.

Take it away -- Paula.

HANCOCKS: Well, Carol, the official state funeral will be starting in just a minute or two. The 19 coffins of those fallen in Nasiriyah in Iraq last Wednesday have been taken from the Emmanuel Victor Monument, where the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is. A funeral cortege through the center of Rome, where hundreds of thousands of people turned up to pay their respects (AUDIO GAP) of respect.

They are now, those coffins are now at the San Paolo Basilica, which is (AUDIO GAP) in Rome, where the vicar of Rome will be taking mass. It will be attended by the President Ciampi of Italy and the prime minister, Silvio Berlesconi, all the Italian dignitaries and, of course, the families of those that have fallen.

COSTELLO: I think we've lost Paula now. The phone line isn't so hot. We'll try to get her back later on on DAYBREAK.
