CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: In the meantime, Michael Jackson is back in Las Vegas working on a music video after a whirlwind trip to jail.
Here's CNN's Frank Buckley on the pop star's answer to child molestation charges.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

FRANK BUCKLEY, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Michael Jackson returned to Santa Barbara in a private jet to surrender to authorities. But the pop star denied photographers the shot they were waiting for of Jackson being taken into custody, his jet pulled halfway into a hangar, keeping his arrest hidden.

Then, a scene reminiscent of O.J. Simpson's slow speed chase.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I know they're getting closer to the sheriff's department.

BUCKLEY: The major difference -- Jackson was already in custody, headed for jail, where one of the world's most famous people emerged from a car and entered the inmate reception center handcuffed.

MARK GERAGOS, LEAD ATTORNEY FOR JACKSON: He's come back specifically to confront these charges head on. He is greatly outraged by the bringing of these charges. He considers this to be a big lie.

BUCKLEY: Jackson later issued a statement saying, "Lies run sprints, but the truth runs marathons. The truth will win this marathon in court."

One of Jackson's brothers, meanwhile, expressed his anger over the arrest in a phone call to CNN.

JERMAINE JACKSON: I am sick and (OBSCENE WORD OMITTED) tired of everybody saying these things about my family. We will fight and we will stand up. And everybody that know this family around the world will support us, because at the end of the day, this is nothing but a modern day lynching.

BUCKLEY: Jackson was booked in less than an hour. He waved and flashed the victory sign after posting bond. But it may be this booking photograph that becomes the image people will remember, the king of pop now facing charges of child molestation.

(on camera): Mr. Jackson's bail was $3 million. He also had to surrender his passport as a condition of bail. His next court appearance is set for January 9.

Frank Buckley, CNN, Santa Barbara, California.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

LIN: Our Gary Tuchman is following the Jackson story and into the next hour of DAYBREAK, he's going to join us by telephone from Santa Barbara County with the very latest from there.
