HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: Actress Halle Berry is back on the big screen with a new psychological thriller. Her movie "Gothika" opens up this weekend. It will be up against some pretty big competition, though, at the box office.
Joining us now for our weekend movie preview is Russ Leatherman -- easy for me to say. Also known as Mr. Moviefone. That's easier to say.

RUSS LEATHERMAN, "MR. MOVIEFONE": Much easier.

COLLINS: Hey, "Gothika," man, that looks really scary.

LEATHERMAN: Yes, it's scared Halle Berry. I don't know about the rest of us. But, you know, it's a psychological horror thriller. She plays really a clinician who deals with the criminally insane. There's an accident and she finds herself in her own institution being accused of killing her husband. Robert Downey Jr.'s in the movie, Penelope Cruz is also in the movie.

The movie is really good for about the first 45 minutes. Then just sort of fall off a cliff. It's stylish, it looks really neat. But it just sort of gets really ridiculous toward the tail end of the movie. And you just sort of wonder why you spent the first hour.

It's, like I said, it might scare her. I don't think it's going to scare too many movie goers. It's really a so-so movie.

CO-HOST: All right, Russ, we got to move along. How about "21 grams"? What are we thinking here? Sean Penn in this one.

LEATHERMAN: Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Naomi Watts. I think this is a terrific movie. It's really kind of down and dirty and gritty. It's about an incident that ties these three characters together. Sort of a tragic movie.

The thing I loved about it is it's like the movie "Memento," it's really cut up. You sort of have to figure out what's happening as it goes along. And really plays out really expertly.

I thought it was really expertly crafted. So I really like this movie. It's down, it's dirty, it's gritty, but it's a really good movie.

COLLINS: . All right, not so predictable.

How about "The Cat in the Hat" though? Not hearing very many good things about this.

LEATHERMAN: What can I say about "The Cat in the Hat"? Well it's stinky, that's what I can say about "The Cat in the Hat."

You know this is really a big disappointment. Mike Myers plays the Cat in the Hat. It's from the classic children's story. There's a lot of adult humor that's thrown into the thing that is not necessary for little kids.

For not a second did I think he was actually the Cat in the Hat. He was always Mike Meyers, you know, one of his other "Saturday Night Live" characters.

Really, there's no story here. And it really plays out on the screen. And it's really a big, big disappointment. So if you're looking for a really good family film to go see, take the kids to see "Elf" for the first or second or 15th time. You're going to be better off than you are with "The Cat in the Hat."

COLLINS: Bummer. All right, Russ Leatherman, thanks so much for giving us a preview on all of that. Do appreciate your time this morning/

LEATHERMAN: We'll see you next time.
