MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN ANCHOR: Now, to our top story. Six more soldiers are added to the U.S. death toll in Iraq, three in hostile action. Meanwhile, a bomb is suspected in an explosion that injured four workers at a northern oil compound. Details on today's bloodshed now from CNN's Walter Rodgers in Baghdad.
WALTER RODGERS, CNN SR. INTERNATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Hello, Martin. Continuing violence and a continuing surge of violence is the story here in Iraq. Three more American soldiers killed in hostile action today. One of them was killed by a roadside bomb just north of Baghdad in the town of Baqubah. What happens is he's riding down the road in a Humvee vehicle and a remotely detonated roadside bomb goes off. He is killed.

In Mosul, two more American soldiers killed there. The Army will only say about that incident is that there was an auto accident of some sort. There was shooting.

There have been unconfirmed reports of a grizzly execution. We cannot confirm that at this point. And the Army will not confirm it at this point. Either way, however, two American soldiers were seen lying in the road in Mosul under a sheet.

Still, a top American general here said just a few moments ago the American side, the U.S.-led coalition, will prevail. And that indeed the insurgents will be defeated.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

BRIG. GEN. MARK KIMMITT, U.S. MILITARY SPOKESMAN: We're not worried in the least. In fact, what we have demonstrated time after time after every engagement with the enemy, we prevail. We have nothing at this point that causes us to be concerned. This is an enemy that cannot defeat us militarily, and engagement after engagement we see the enemy breaking off, running away. And militarily, their attacks are becoming more and more insignificant to us against coalition forces.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

RODGERS: Still, General Kimmitt went on to say that they have captured large numbers of the insurgents all around Iraq and also they continue to capture large numbers of weapons. Having said that, he was forced to admit the U.S. intelligence community still does not know whether the resistance is centrally directed by one person or whether indeed there are multiple cells of resistance launching all these attacks against the Americans -- Martin.

SAVIDGE: Thank you, Walt. Good to see you again. CNN's Walt Rodgers reporting live from Baghdad.
