CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Of course, this is a very busy time for our "Eye on the Sky." Air traffic expert Travelocity's Rally Caparas is here to tell us, I hope, it's a beautiful day across much of the nation, and there will be no delays.
RALLY CAPARAS, AIR TRAFFIC EXPERT, TRAVELOCITY: Carol, I wish I could tell you that. It is an absolutely beautiful day, as Chad has been telling us all morning long. And that means no delays? I'm sorry, I can't say that.

The volume is back up, folks -- 4.6 million of you traveling. A lot more airplanes out there; a lot more seats available also. There will be volume-related delays despite the perfect weather, but today you are more likely to be early than you are to be late. But you'll still sit on the airport surface areas, as there will be a battle to manipulate who is going into the gate and when that airplane is going to get out, because you'll be getting there early.

Here's how things are going to work for you today.

On the East Coast from Boston all the way down to Miami expect excellent flight conditions, on-time schedules all day, but during peak periods -- and those peak periods are between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and then again between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in your local times zones -- you will see delays. The delays will most likely be suffered at New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago O'Hare, Atlanta and LAX -- those major hub cities.

Forty-five minute arrival and departure delays during those timeframes will be a problem there because of high volume and compacted demand, in an air traffic control term -- too many airplanes all at once. Delays are built into the schedules, folks, and when we don't have any major delays, then everybody is there at the same time and it usually means delays again.

Salt Lake City and Denver, Chad has been telling you, freezing temperatures in those areas. There will be some departure flight de- icing. Expert 30 to 45 minute departure delays at those locations throughout the day.

And then on the West Coast, the Alt (ph) Tacoma, the only airport, once again, low clouds, marine layer fog. They'll have some rain, and that will mean 30 to 45 minute arrival and departure delays throughout the day.

We'll be here all day long. I'll be keeping my "Eye on the Sky." I'll talk to you in just a little while. COSTELLO: Yes, we just got an e-mail from Alexandra, who is a TSA screening in Los Angeles, and she reminds everyone that if you're taking wrapped gifts, not a good thing to do, because TSA screeners are going to have to unwrap the gifts. They don't like to do that, but they must do that for security reasons. So, ship your packages.

CAPARAS: Wasted work. Wasted work.

COSTELLO: Wasted work. All right, thank you, Rally.
