CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: A little bit of fun in a place that's not fun at all. The better news this morning: the Pentagon does plan to increase the number of forces it plans to rotate into and out of Iraq. That means coming home -- at least we hope so.
Live to CNN Pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr, who is in Doha, Qatar this Thanksgiving.

Happy thanksgiving -- Barbara.

BARBARA STARR, CNN PENTAGON CORRESPONDENT: Well, thank you, Carol.

We're here in Doha, Qatar, and we went earlier today to the desert headquarters here in the Persian Gulf for the U.S. Central Command. And they were serving quite a midday Thanksgiving meal to the troops there.

Let's have a few of those turkey statistics from all the way here in the Persian Gulf. They served about 2,500 meals to the troops, 900 pounds of turkey, 1,000 pounds of beef, over 2,000 deserts and even 700 pounds of shrimp cocktail. All in all it was a bit of a time to get away from it all, a little bit of relaxation for the troops.

We even ran into a number of soldiers on that R&R leave from Afghanistan and from Iraq -- young men and women who were able to come back and have a hot Thanksgiving meal.

So, here in the Persian Gulf a few moments, at least today, for a bit of relaxation from the war -- Carol.

COSTELLO: All right, Barbara Starr reporting live from Doha, Qatar, this Thanksgiving morning.
