CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: You can stuff that holiday turkey without stuffing yourself. Yes, you can.
Our Christy Feig looks at some ways to enjoy the holidays without busting your diet.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

CHRISTY FEIG, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Lori Asburry has lost 55 pounds, and one of her secrets to keeping it off this holiday season is 30 minutes a day on the treadmill.

LORI ASBURRY, SUCCESSFUL DIETER: I put it in the same category as you know making my son's lunch or taking a shower. Those are things that I don't necessarily enjoy doing and sometimes I feel rushed to get them in, but I can't skip them.

FEIG: She, like many people, has loaded on the pounds along with the favorite foods in holidays past. But experts say that's not necessary.

DENISE FEELEY, WASHINGTON HOSPITAL CENTER: Watch what you add to the foods. Watch the butters and margarines and whip creams and ice creams.

FEIG: But that doesn't mean abandoning taste. Chef Bonnie Moore creates recipes for making regular food low fat.

BONNIE MOORE, EXEC. CHEF, FOODFIT.COM: And then rather than adding cream, we're going to add some low sodium chicken broth.

FEIG: And instead of butter in breads and muffins, try the same amount of applesauce or fruit puree.

MOORE: You're going to try to match the fruit that you are substituting to the flavor of the bread that you are making. For example, applesauce goes very well with cranberries.

FEIG: In recipes that call for sour cream, substitute low fat plain yogurt.

MOORE: And we are going to put the yogurt in a strainer and strain it overnight. And you get all of this liquid that strains out of the yogurt.

FEIG: And that reduces the fat in this red pepper dip to one gram per three tablespoons. In Washington, I'm Christy Feig.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

COSTELLO: Whatever that was, it looked bad.
