SEAN CALLEBS, CNN ANCHOR: Post-Thanksgiving travelers remain wary around Columbus, Ohio. Authorities now say there have been 11 recent shootings at vehicles on or near the I-270 freeway, just outside Ohio's capital city. No one had been injured until last Tuesday when a woman was shot and killed.
CNN's Kris Osborn is in Columbus with the very latest information for it. Good morning, Kris.
KRIS OSBORN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning to you, Sean. Yes, some people are very wary. As you mentioned, authorities are struggling to try and get to the bottom of a seemingly inexplicable string of shootings, all of them taking place along Interstate 270. That is a perimeter highway that borders the outskirts of Columbus, Ohio.
Investigators say there have been 11 shootings, 10 of them since just this past October 10. They've been able to link -- there could be more than two, but they've been able to link at least two of the shootings through various ballistics tests. And they continue to issue a tipline and ask the public for more help.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Investigators are pleased with the quantity of leads that are being phoned into our tip line. Many of the leads are reports of suspicious persons that were observed at various times in the area of the shootings since May the 10th.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
OSBORN: And as you mentioned, there was one fatality. 62-year- old Gail Knisley from a smaller town several hours south of Columbus. It is called Washington Courthouse. She was remembered at a funeral service yesterday where loved ones sang songs, carried flowers and held prayers and talked in memory of Gail Knisley. She left two sons behind. And many in the community talked about how they're a bit torn up.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She was a joy to be with, and she made people happy when they were sad. Just a great loss. It's the wrong person's in the casket. The guy that shot her ought to be there. Because she didn't deserve that. UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I wish that more of us could be like her. She just loved everyone and she loved her family.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
OSBORN: Well, there has been only one fatality, of course, Gail Knisley, who family members and friends you just heard from. There have been a number of other shootings, but no person has been hit. A number of vehicles. Authorities here are very cautious about using the term "sniper." They won't use it. They won't even conjure up images. But they do say they have been in contact with D.C. area law enforcement, of course who investigated the incidents there -- Sean.
CALLEBS: OK, Kris Osborn, just outside Columbus, Ohio for us. Thanks, Kris.
