CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: It is the Monday after a high calorie Thanksgiving and I know you're still feeling like a stuffed turkey. I know I am.
Dr. Sandra Fryhofer is here to help you over the holiday weight woes and get you back on track.

So...

DR. SANDRA FRYHOFER, CNN CORRESPONDENT: That's right, get you back on track.

COSTELLO: Where do you start?

FRYHOFER: Well, start with the beginning. If you ate in moderation this Thanksgiving, way to go. If not, don't fret, you're not alone. But there's no time like the present to get on the right track.

Now, first thing, don't skip breakfast and do make good choices. You want to choose foods with a low glycemic index. Now, this means that they'll metabolize more slowly and you won't get so hungry. Now, these are generally fiber rich foods like grainy cereals, the brown breads, you know, the ones that are made from the whole grains, oats and bran, the less processing the better.

Any sweets left over? Get rid of them. Any cakes or pies? Either put them in the freezer or toss them in the trash.

Now, don't go to the grocery store when you're hungry, because it's easy to get side tracked when your stomach rather than your brain is doing the choosing.

And, finally, get some exercise today, right now if you can. You'll burn some calories, you'll feel better. Also, remember that exercise boosts your immune system, something we all need this cold and flu season. And try to aim for 30 minutes a day. An hour is even better. But even 10 minutes is better than nothing. So go ahead and run up your stairs if you don't have time to go get on the treadmill.

COSTELLO: Yes, run up those stairs three or four or five or...

FRYHOFER: But don't fall.

COSTELLO: Yes, don't fall.

But what if you're really feeling full or bloated -- may I say bloated?

FRYHOFER: Are you telling on yourself, Carol?

COSTELLO: No, because my turkey was not that good.

FRYHOFER: Well, the first thing you want to do is stay -- leave off the salt and stay away from the salty foods. A high fiber breakfast along with a cup of hot green tea and a short walk can get your digestive track moving and help relieve constipation. Also, the caffeine in the green tea has a mild diuretic effect. And, of course, green tea is a source of antioxidants, so it has its own health benefits.

Now, laxatives are probably not a good idea. The extra fiber is much better.

COSTELLO: So just eat a big bowl of high fiber cereal and...

FRYHOFER: And exercise and today's a new day.

COSTELLO: Thank you, Dr. Sandy.

FRYHOFER: We've got everybody fired up.

COSTELLO: I'm sure you did. You were very excited about that.

FRYHOFER: We're going to all lost 10 pounds before Christmas.

COSTELLO: Sure we are.
