CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: No suspects, but there is an all-out search under way. A federal prosecutor is stabbed to death, his body thrown in a roadside ditch in Pennsylvania. It happened sometime after he'd worked out a plea deal involving a rap artist in Baltimore.

ELAINE QUIJANO, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Luna was supposed to appear here in federal court Thursday morning in Baltimore to prosecute a drug conspiracy case. He never made it to work, and instead authorities found his body miles away in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Now, a senior federal law enforcement source says that Luna was stabbed multiple times. Luna, on Wednesday night, had apparently been working on a couple of plea agreements associated with that drug conspiracy case. And he left, according to officials, around 6:30, finishing up those plea agreements, arrived home around 8:00 Wednesday night, and then received a call sometime Wednesday evening and left his home around midnight and never made it here to the federal courthouse.

Now, the defense attorney representing one of the people involved in that case says he has no reason to believe that his client was involved. He says that these plea offers were actually made or the conditions of them were put on the table a couple of weeks ago, and he doesn't have any reason to believe that his client was involved.

This defense attorney also went on to call Jonathan Luna a friend, as well as a colleague.

Jonathan Luna was 38 years old. He had worked as a federal prosecutor here in Baltimore for four years. He was married and had two children.
