SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: In New England, they are digging out of three feet of snow in some parts, as we just heard Chad talk about.
Adoara Udoji is following the cleanup efforts this morning for us in Boston.
Good morning to you, Adoara. How are you?
ADOARA UDOJI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Soledad.
Indeed, we are following what's going on here. People are just sort of up and moving at this point. The subways are working. Buses are on the road. As you can see, folks coming out, very brave folks are going to work.
City officials have closed schools today while the crews are out trying to work. They're trying to limit some of the traffic on the roads.
Now, New Englanders, as we all know, are very used to, like, big storms, but what's unusual in this case is that so much snow came so early in the season. And we can attest personally that it was one heck of a storm.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
UDOJI (voice-over): They dug out their cars or jumped in their boats. In Situate, just outside Boston, for some, the best route home was over the water. High waves and wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour triggered flooding. A handful of families were forced to evacuate. Along the coast, 16,000 homes lost power.
In Boston, when the storm started petering out Sunday, city officials were left dealing with record snowfalls. One suburb racked up at least 36 inches.
Authorities in six other states blamed slick and treacherous roads for a number of fatalities. Air travel turned into a nightmare for anyone trying to get into or out of the East Coast. Boston's Logan Airport was closed for 16 hours.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Just snow continues to fall well over a foot.
ODUJI: Never mind the snow. Patriot fans had an important showdown to attend -- their team duking it out with the Miami Dolphins, a team more accustomed to sunscreen than snow plows. (END VIDEOTAPE)
Now, you're looking at a shot of Tremont Street. You can see, there are buses and mail trucks and lots of activity on the road.
Logan Airport, the good news is it is open. There are still lots of cancellations and delays. We have no exact numbers at this point. They're expecting many flights to take off and to start coming in at around 7:00, about now. Also, the airlines have a terrible backlog. So, clearly there will continue to be some delays, at least throughout the day.
The main roads are clear. And what city officials are most concerned about at this point are secondary streets, because, as you mentioned, Soledad, in some of the suburban areas they got as much as three feet of snow. And, as Chad mentioned, the good news is they're expecting sunshine today and mid-30s -- Soledad.
O'BRIEN: Meaning some of that now, hopefully, Adoara, will melt. Adoara Oduji for us this morning. Adoara, thanks.
