CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: New pictures of Saddam Hussein to show you this morning. He's not in a pricey suit or in uniform, but dressed as a man in captivity. And, no, there is no tongue depressor involved.
With that and more, let's head live to Baghdad and Satinder Bindra.

Good morning.

SATINDER BINDRA, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Carol.

There has been more violence, and I'll come to those pictures in a moment. But more violence last night, and caught in the middle of it were U.S. soldiers. The U.S. Army telling us this morning, while on patrol last night U.S. soldiers were shot at. One U.S. soldier killed, another U.S. soldier wounded; also wounded, an Iraqi interpreter.

This is the first combat fatality, Carol, since Saddam Hussein's capture five days ago.

Now, there is a lot of interest in Saddam Hussein, the captive. And early this morning -- I want to show you some pictures. And early this morning, a picture of Saddam Hussein in one of the newspapers here. This newspaper is owned by one of the members on the Iraqi Governing Council, Ahmad Chalabi. And take a look at this picture. It shows Saddam Hussein who is shaved. His hair has been cropped. And he's talking to Ahmad Chalabi. He's talking in a traditional Arab dress.

Now, of course, this newspaper has started to sell like hotcakes. Several newsstands have already sold out this newspaper. Some newspaper vendors keeping the last paper, saying it's not for sale. They want to keep it as a souvenir. Normally, this newspaper sells for about 15 cents. Today, there is a thriving black market. This newspaper is selling for 30 cents.

Back to you.

COSTELLO: Just astounding. A question for you. I don't know if you've had a chance to talk to any of the Iraqis buying this newspaper, but Saddam Hussein certainly still doesn't look like himself in that picture. What's their reaction to just his appearance?

BINDRA: Well, they've considered both this picture and the earlier pictures to be quite humiliating for Saddam Hussein. And most of the people that we've talked to this morning are absolutely certain this is Saddam Hussein. And when you take a closer look at the picture, you see Saddam Hussein sitting lower than Ahmad Chalabi.

So, once again, a lot of interest in this picture, and people are also very interested to know where Saddam Hussein is. Word got around to one member of the Governing Council just last night that Saddam Hussein is right here in Baghdad.

Back to you.

COSTELLO: All right, Satinder Bindra reporting live from Baghdad. Many thanks to you.
