CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: We have more pictures to show you this morning. They're on the front page of an Iraqi newspaper. They show a captured Saddam talking with a member of the Iraqi Governing Council. We also have word of more violence.
Live to Baghdad now and Satinder Bindra.

Good morning -- Satinder.

SATINDER BINDRA, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Carol.

News just last night that Saddam Hussein may be held captive here in Baghdad, and this morning an Iraqi newspaper, owned by a member of the Governing Council, Ehema Chalabi (ph), ran a front-page picture.

Let me show you this picture. It shows Saddam Hussein talking to Dr. Chalabi, and in this picture, you can clearly see that Saddam Hussein had a shave. His hair is cropped. He's wearing the traditional Arab dishtasha (ph), as you can see, and then he's wearing a jacket on top.

This meeting, we understand, took place last Sunday, and this morning this newspaper is selling like hotcakes. Some news stands have already sold out this newspaper, and newspaper vendors are keeping the last copy for themselves as a souvenir.

In other places, we are given to understand this newspaper that normally sells for 15 cents is selling for about 30 cents.

Also today, the U.S. Army confirming to us, Carol, that a U.S. soldier was shot last night. He was shot while on patrol, and this is the first combat fatality for U.S. troops since the capture of Saddam Hussein five days ago.

Back to you now.

COSTELLO: Satinder, more about those pictures in the newspaper and about the meeting between Ahmad Chalabi and Saddam Hussein. It must have been awkward and strange. Chalabi hasn't lived in Iraq for quite some time. He's been exiled. And now, he's a very powerful figure there.

BINDRA: Yes, it was very strange, say Governing Council members, because they say Saddam Hussein was at times incoherent. At times he was abusive. And he did own up to some of his responsibilities. When asked why he invaded Kuwait, he said he always considered Kuwait to be a part of Iraq.

Back to you.

COSTELLO: Satinder Bindra reporting live from Baghdad this morning.
