DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: We go to Tom Cruise. Tom, are you there with us?
TOM CRUISE, ACTOR: I'm here, How are you?

KAGAN: I'm doing great. You are doing absolutely even better. A nomination for best actor in a major motion picture as a drama for "Last Samurai." Congratulations.

CRUISE: Thank you, it's very exciting.

KAGAN: It's been a huge project you have worked on seems like we've been hearing about this coming out for so many months now.

CRUISE: Two years.

KAGAN: Two years of your life. You're co-star also nominated.

CRUISE: Ken Watanabe and Hans Zimmer.

KAGAN: Now, one thing we did notice, the movie didn't make it into the best motion picture drama. Are you disappointed by that?

CRUISE: You know, I don't make movies for awards. When this happens, it's always -- you know, it's a wonderful thing. I just couldn't be more proud.

I made this movie because I wanted to work with that director. He's a masterful filmmaker. And it's an astonishing accomplishment. You look at it, how well the film is doing and the kind of response that we've gotten from audiences.

I'm just -- I'm very excited. A little tired right now because I've been shooting all night, but I'm very excited.

KAGAN: What are you working on now?

CRUISE: I'm doing a picture with Michael Mann and Jamie Foxx.

KAGAN: Can you tell as you little bit more about that?

(LAUGHTER)

CRUISE: Well, how about we (AUDIO GAP)

KAGAN: OK, when a movie comes out that has a lot of night scenes in it we'll know that was the movie you were working on. CRUISE: It's a working title now of "Collateral." That's why I didn't give you the title because we're still -- in the next few days we're going to come up with a title of the movie.

KAGAN: Let's get back to the news of the day that is the Golden Globe nomination for "Last Samurai."

Do you take some pride in the fact that it comes from the Hollywood foreign journalist association, Foreign Press Association? It's going to get more international recognition?

CRUISE: I just think it's nice. It's a wonderful thing. Any kind of, you know, recognition, you know, that the film gets. It's wonderful. I'm very proud of this movie.

And you look at kind of response we've gotten. And I got to tell you, he never made a film where I've gotten so many people calling and writing letters that didn't have to. You know, filmmakers and producers, people that I've worked with and some that I don't even know.

And so I think, you know, it's just an exciting day.

KAGAN: And keeping it all in the family, your former wife.

(CROSSTALK)

CRUISE: That's nice.

KAGAN: Have you seen that movie yet? Have you seen "Cold Mountain"?

CRUISE: No, I haven't. I'm looking forward to seeing all the pictures because I haven't had an opportunity. We've been shooting nights. I'm going to take my Christmas holiday and have a lot of fun seeing all the films.

KAGAN: Because you're so busy working on the movie that you can't tell us any more about.

CRUISE: (UNINTELLIGIBLE) it doesn't have a title.

KAGAN: Will we see you January 25 in Beverly Hills at the Golden Globes?

CRUISE: Oh sure I'll be there.

KAGAN: I'll be there on the red carpet. You stop by and say hello.

CRUISE: I'll say hello.

KAGAN:

CRUISE: You all take care.

KAGAN: Tom Cruise, nominated for "Last Samurai," for best actor.
