DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Well, we are talking about movies. We're going to get to the "Return of the King" in a minute. But this is my dream movie segment, because it's all girl movie. "Mona Lisa Smile" is the first one.
Russ Leatherman, who's had to strap him in to watch two girl movies.

First start with "Mona Lisa Smile."

Good morning.

RUSS LEATHERMAN, "MR. MOVIEFONE": Well, Daryn, I think we should tell the audience, first, that I think you provided the voice for Gollum in "Lord of the Rings," is that not true?

KAGAN: I'm going for a Brenda Vaccaro, Demi Moore kind of thing today.

LEATHERMAN: You know what, I like it, I like it a lot.

KAGAN: Hang with me here, my friend.

LEATHERMAN: Who needs Julia Roberts when we have you? And I really mean that, I actually mean that -- who needs Julia Roberts?

"Mona Lisa Smile," big romantic comedy for the holiday season, stars Julia Roberts, Julia Stiles, Kirsten Dunst, and really, she plays a Berkeley graduate who goes to the all-girls school of Wellesley to really shake things up. She is going to teach art history and really teach the girls that there's more to life than just working to get married. You can work to have a career and all that.

And I have to tell you, this movie sort of put me to sleep.

KAGAN: You need to access your inner woman, Russ?

LEATHERMAN: You know what, I've accessed my inner woman once or twice. I tried it here, and it didn't work out.

But you know what, this is really "Dead Poet's society" redone. I didn't find the characters particularly compelling. I thought they were sort of one-note characters. So woman or no woman, I'm not up for "Mona Lisa Smiles."

KAGAN: Well, the problem is they made Julia Roberts character a Berkeley grad; they should have made her a Stanford grad, then I'm sure it would have been great.

LEATHERMAN: That's exactly right, you know, if you're a woman between the ages of 54 and 54 and a half, you're going to love this movie. But aside from that, I don't know...

KAGAN: How about "Calendar Girls," this one does look very good.

LEATHERMAN: This the "Full Monty" with boobies. That's what I'm talking about. It stars Helen Mirren, Julie Walters. And it really is sort of like "The Full Monty." It's about this group of women who decide to pose nude for a calendar to raise money for a charity, because one of their husbands has died of cancer, and I really enjoyed this movie. It's a British comedy, with sort of that British sensibility. It's fun, it's entertaining, the performances are good. It's really lighthearted holiday fare, so if you're just looking for a good time, this is a good movie to check out.

KAGAN: OK, I will be doing that.

Give us an update on how "The Lord of the Rings" is doing out there.

LEATHERMAN: Well, the movie is fantastic. It has the biggest Wednesday opening ever. I'm sure we'll break all of the December opening box office records. And really moviegoers just couldn't be happier with this movie. It delivered on everything they wanted. It's fantastic. It's fantasy movie making at its best. So tuck away four or five hours and go check out "Lord of the Rings."

KAGAN: Yes, I'll be doing that.

LEATHERMAN: I bet you will.

KAGAN: Hey, Russ, you have some good holidays, OK. We'll see you in the New Year.

LEATHERMAN: You, too. I can't wait. Thanks for having me on the air.

KAGAN: Thank you, Mr. Moviefone, Russ Leatherman.
