CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: The military says two U.S. soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb today. And U.S. troops have carried out more raids targeting Iraqi insurgents.
CNN's Satinder Bindra joins us now live from Baghdad, with the latest from there.

SATINDER BINDRA, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Carol.

It's been nine days since the capture of Saddam Hussein, and the violence here continues. Today an incident in Baghdad this morning. A U.S. convoy ran over an improvised explosive device, and two U.S. soldiers with the 1st Armored Division were killed. Also killed, one Iraqi interpreter.

Now two U.S. soldiers were also wounded in this incident, and shortly after this incident, U.S. forces searched the area, but they came up empty handed.

Also west of here, another improvised explosive device going off and critically wounding another U.S. soldier.

Now, as this violence continues, U.S. forces are launching several anti-insurgent sweeps. Today, just north of Baghdad, U.S. forces say they've captured a member, a senior member of Saddam Hussein's former regime.

Now, the name of this person has not been revealed, but over the past three days, U.S. forces say they've taken into custody some 200 suspected insurgents.

Now, Carol, some Iraqis are disturbed about this. They say the U.S. should concentrate more on giving Iraqis better drinking water, more electricity, and, of course gas.

As we've been reporting, there's been a critical shortage of gas here in Iraq for the past several weeks.

Back to you now.

O'BRIEN: All right. Thank you very much. Satinder Bindra, reporting live from Baghdad.
