FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: Ho, ho, ho, time to hit the highways or maybe even the skyways.
RALLY CAPARAS, AIR TRAFFIC SPECIALIST, TRAVELOCITY.COM: Yes.

WHITFIELD: Rally Caparas with a quick look at the holiday travel for us.

CAPARAS: A real quick look, folks. It's going to be a long wait if you are headed into the northeast today. Can't help it, the weather is not cooperating. At least it's not snow and ice. Here's how it's going to break down for you today.

If you are headed into the northeast, New York City, Newark's Liberty Airport, LaGuardia and Philadelphia today, expect 45 to 60- minute arrival delays. There will be lots of people, a lot of security. The orange alert still a factor. It's going to be a slow go.

And then the weather and the wind is going to kick in. Low clouds, poor visibility, runway configurations aren't going to work well. Forty-five to 60-minute arrival delays into those locations are optimistic. I'll be back throughout the day with more updates and let you know how that's going to change.

Down in the D.C. Metros and Atlanta this morning, low clouds, poor visibility and fog are going to create 45-minute arrival delays early. Then later on this afternoon and evening, in time for the evening rush period, we should see improved conditions and close to, if not, on-time schedules. So good news here.

Detroit, Cleveland and Pittsburgh, they'll see some low clouds, some fog, some snow and departure flight de-icing to the tune of 30 to 45-minute arrival and departure delays beginning later this morning and lasting throughout the rest of the day.

Chicago O'Hare, on the other side of Lake Michigan, it's going to be a slow go there also. Forty-five to 60-minute arrival delays. The northwest wind, combined with the heavy volume, will create less-than- optimal runway configurations. Too complicated to get into this morning, but it will be about an hour wait if you are headed into that large hub.

And then on the West Coast, San Francisco International, they'll see the worst of it. Another day of low clouds, fog, wind, rain, poor visibility and 60 to 90-minute arrival delays.

And like I said, I'll be back throughout the rest of the day with your latest 'Eye on the Sky.'

Fred, merry Christmas and I'll see you.

WHITFIELD: Merry Christmas, ho, ho, ho.

CAPARAS: OK. Yes.

WHITFIELD: No more bah-humbug, huh?

CAPARAS: No more bah-humbug, red, Christmas, Santa Claus tonight.

WHITFIELD: All right. You're in the spirit, all right.

All right. Thanks a lot -- Rally.

CAPARAS: Yes.
