FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: Well time for a little 'Biz Buzz.' The mad cow scare isn't just bad for the beef people, chicken and pork producers are also worried.
Let's check in with Stacey Tisdale at the Nasdaq for more on that.

Hi again -- Stacey.

STACEY TISDALE, CNN FINANCIAL NEWS CORRESPONDENT: Hi, Fredricka.

This is really an interesting twist to the mad cow story. As you said, chicken and pork producers are concerned as well. But they are concerned that concerns about beef are going to translate into chicken and pork. And this really comes as these producers saw an improvement in August and September prices. Beef prices up during those months as well, due in part to the popularity of high protein diets like Atkins.

But there is one industry that is expected to benefit, organic beef. These animals are only fed milk, grasses and grains from birth to slaughter. But keep in mind organic beef is six to eight cents higher -- six to eight times higher, I'm sorry, in supermarkets than regular beef prices. It'll be interesting to see if people really jump on that bandwagon.

Speaking of bandwagons, they are saying don't expect much of one on Wall Street today. Premarket indicators are pointing to a very lackluster open. Expect light volume. We have a shortened trading day. The markets here in the U.S. close at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Well when things get going, the Dow will be at 10,305, down about 36 points. On Wednesday, the Nasdaq lost about 5 points, starting at 1443. But a lot of people out there happy that their year end statements are going to look a lot better this year than they did last year.

And those are the business news headlines. Now let's go back to Fredricka.

WHITFIELD: All right, that's encouraging. Thanks a lot -- Stacey.

TISDALE: Thank you.
