FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: In Iraq, two American soldiers have been killed and four others wounded in a mortar attack.
Let's get details on the incident from our Rym Brahimi, who's joining us live now from Baghdad -- Rym.

RYM BRAHIMI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Fredricka, those two U.S. soldiers were killed when their forward operating base was attacked by mortar. And that happened on Thursday night in the city of Ba'qubah, which is about an hour's drive northeast of Baghdad. In Babylon, or, rather, near the city of Babylon, which is about an hour's drive south of Baghdad, two multinational soldiers were wounded. Their patrol was attacked with an improvised explosive device, again on Thursday evening.

Now, in Baghdad there was also very intense activity overnight, Fredricka, again, a night of battle, I would say. You could hear the U.S. forces basically sending in a lot of artillery. There were, you could hear the planes, the gunships. You could also hear, just outside the Palestine here, there was what seemed to be a fierce gun battle raging on. And in the green zone, Fredricka, where the coalition authority has its headquarters, some several mortars were launched against that area, which is heavily barricaded. And shortly after that we heard these sirens.

Now, we heard also from the 1st Armored Division that they were able to capture five men that they suspect were responsible for launching those mortars at the coalition headquarters on Thursday night -- Fredricka.

WHITFIELD: All right, Rym Brahimi.

For that update in Baghdad, thank you.
