CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Kobe Bryant and the Lakers were in Denver last night. It was the Lakers first trip to Denver since Bryant was charged with sexually assaulting a Colorado woman last fall, and it was ugly.
Phil Keating with CNN affiliate KDVR tells us some fans were not particularly polite.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
PHIL KEATING, KDVR-TV REPORTER (voice-over): A bunch of booing but plenty of cheering for Kobe Bryant at his first game in Denver since the L.A. Laker got charged with felony sex assault.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Boo, Kobe, get out of here. Don't call me. Don't come to Denver, boy.
KEATING: Every time Bryant touched the ball...
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Boo.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: My neighbor is booing Kobe.
KEATING: Select fans gave Kobe a dose of disapproval.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Boo, get out of there.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It's all partisanship, come on, we're Denver Nuggets fans.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Kobe. Kobe in the house.
KEATING: But by no means was this a resounding condemnation of the NBA superstar and sex assault suspect, plenty of Kobe fans came out wearing their No. 8s.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I'm not booing, man, I'm all about Kobe, big Kobe fan. It's basketball and Kobe is innocent until proven guilty.
KEATING: Before the heavily hyped game, as the Lakers left their hotel, Bryant walked by without a word. His coach, Phil Jackson, just this.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Coach, what are you expecting from the crowd?
PHIL JACKSON, L.A. LAKERS COACH: (INAUDIBLE) tonight (INAUDIBLE). UNIDENTIFIED MALE: A warm reception.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Boo.
KEATING: Not exactly a warm reception, but not nearly as nasty as many expected.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
COSTELLO: That was Phil Keating of our affiliate KDVR reporting.
