CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: All right, we are now being told that the crew did survive that crash of an Apache helicopter in Iraq. This happened, oh, about five hours ago.
Let's head live to Baghdad and Karl Penhaul -- good morning, Karl.

KARL PENHAUL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi, Carol.

Still no word yet, though, from coalition military authorities on what may have caused that crash. We don't know if this was a shoot down or whether, possibly for some kind of mechanical errors, that it went down. It did go down, though, we're told, near the town of Habaniyah. That's about 50 miles west, between 40 and 50 miles west of Baghdad, in the heart of the so-called Sunni Triangle. And that really is the heartland of the anti-coalition guerilla war here.

Now, it was an Apache helicopter, we're told. That's a two seater aircraft. And coalition military authorities do say that initial reports suggest that the crew did survive.

The Apache is one of the Army's most sophisticated attack helicopters, a lot of high tech imagery and weaponry on board there. Depending on what kind of model it was, price range on that kind of helicopter anything between $15 million and $25 million.

COSTELLO: But, again, the crew did survive this crash. We just don't know what brought the helicopter down at this point.

Karl Penhaul reporting live from Baghdad this morning.
