DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Another U.S. helicopter is down in Iraq this morning. Our Karl Penhaul is in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad. He join us live. Karl, what do you know?
KARL PENHAUL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi, Daryn. Yes, that was a U.S. Apache Attack helicopter that went down near the town of Habaner (ph), about 40 miles west of Baghdad this morning. Coalition military officials now saying it was probably brought down by hostile fire. Witnesses say they saw a flash, that it was possibly some type of missile or rocket that hit the helicopter.

The coalition says the two-man crew is safe. They were rescued by a quick reaction force. It's the third attack on a helicopter in this area, the Sunni Triangle area, in the last two weeks. The last one, last week when a Blackhawk helicopter came down and all nine on board were killed there.

In another incident in the nearby town of Fallujah, also in the so-called Sunni Triangle, which is the heartland of anti-coalition guerrilla activity, there was an attack on U.S. soldier, we're told by the officials at the mayor's office. The U.S. paratroopers were guarding the mayor's office and surrounding buildings when a rocket- propelled grenade was fired at them, according to the official we spoke to.

U.S. soldiers then returned fire and three Iraqis were killed, including one woman. This is according, as I say, to an official at the mayor's office.

KAGAN: Karl Penhaul in Baghdad, thank you for that.
