CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: A suicide bomber, female, blew herself up as she crossed from the Palestinian territory into Israel. Four are dead. There are others injured this morning.
We take you live to Gaza City and Matthew Chance.

Good morning -- Matthew.

MATTHEW CHANCE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Carol, thank you.

In fact, I'm standing actually inside the industrial zone, which straddles the border lying between the Gaza Strip and Israel proper here, where the actual suicide attack took place. You can see it's quite a scene of devastation right here behind me. It's where the Israel army personnel and security guards give the several thousand Palestinians, who come into this factory zone on a daily basis in order to earn a living.

But we know from the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, the organization closely affiliated with Yasser Arafat's Fatah faction, that said it planned and carried out this attack, and that the woman who -- well, the bomber was a female, a 21-year-old from Gaza City. According to Israeli officials, at least four Israelis were killed in this.

Brigadier General Gadi Shamni is the commander of the Gaza Strip District. Here's what he had to say earlier.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

BRIG. GEN. GADI SHAMNI, COMMANDER, GAZA STRIP DIVISION: This morning, a suicide bomber, a woman, a suicide bomber came into the workers' path in the Erez industrial site, and exploded herself, killing four soldiers -- three soldiers and one civilian, and wounding other people.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CHANCE: Amongst those other people, we understand from Palestinian and Israeli officials, were a number of Palestinian workers themselves caught up in this latest blast.

Back to you -- Carol.

COSTELLO: As for a claim of responsibility, tell us more about that -- Matthew. CHANCE: Well, there have been a number of phone calls that CNN has received -- one from the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, which I say is affiliated with Yasser Arafat's Fatah faction, another one from the Palestinian militant group, Hamas, who say that this was a joint operation, carried out by those two militant groups.

The fact is that on the ground in Gaza, these militant factions often operate in a sort of orchestrated and coordinated fashion. And so, the claim of responsibility, as we understand it though, is coming most firmly from the Al Aqsa Brigades.

COSTELLO: Matthew Chance reporting live from Gaza this morning.
