FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: The weather is bad out there -- a little ice, a little rain, a little snow. You know what that means -- a lot of flight delays.
Rally Caparas is joining us now to give us a sense. It's going to be ugly, isn't it?

RALLY CAPARAS, AIR TRAFFIC SPECIALIST, TRAVELOCITY: Oh, it's ugly. It's ugly. I slid sideways going 60 miles an hour this morning on the way down here in Atlanta. They're shutting down highways all over the place, folks.

It's going to be a terrible day for air travel throughout most of the United States -- the eastern half, that is.

Let's talk about the delays. There are plenty to get to.

New York City, Philadelphia, delay-free at the moment, but that's going to change over the next couple of hours. Expect one to two hour arrival delays. Snow, departure-flight de-icing will be a problem. You can expect departure delays of about an hour; also poor visibility -- just a nasty day in the Northeast. Expect those delays to likely double when we hit the peak period between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. this evening in the Eastern Time zone.

D.C. Metros and Charlotte, they, too, will suffer some delays, not nearly as bad, however; 45 to 60-minute arrival and departure delays, light snow, de-icing, icing problems throughout the south -- actually, the Eastern seaboard, as they've been talking. Rob has told you about the weather. It's going to be a bad one.

Atlanta Hartsfield, we're going to see 45 to 60-minute arrival and departure delays. We're seeing de-icing here in Atlanta. We don't see it very often, but it will take place, and it will be an all-day affair here.

Chicago O'Hare, delay-free at the moment, but you guessed it. It's not going to last long. Two to three-hour arrival delays, departure delays will be around 60 minutes or so. Snow, wet runways, the slippery runways won't allow them to do their landing and hold short procedures. That drastically reduces their capacity. So, expect lengthy delays into O'Hare again.

And now, here's a roll call of just about all of the airports in the East. Minneapolis, St. Paul, St. Louis, Detroit, Cleveland and Pittsburg, they'll be doing runway treatment, getting the ice and the snow off the runways. Expect 60-minute arrival and departure delays intermittingly throughout the day.

I'll be back tomorrow morning hopefully with better news, but not likely with your "Eye on the Sky" in the morning.

WHITFIELD: Yuck.

CAPARAS: Yes, that's what I say. Yuck.

WHITFIELD: I say, stay at home.

CAPARAS: Good luck, folks.

WHITFIELD: All right, 41 minutes past the hour now. Thanks very much.
