FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: A star-studded show for the 61st Golden Globes. Hollywood's A list collected accolades, appreciation and of course, awards. And if the Globes are any indication, the Academy Awards will have a nice ring to them as well.
Julie Cevine reports.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

LEONARDO DICAPRIO, ACTOR: "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King."

JULIE CEVINE, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): After two losing years, the third installment of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy finally rules, taking home four wins, including best picture and best director.

MELANIE GRIFFITH, ACTRESS: Renee Zellweger.

CEVINE: A freeze out for the film "Cold Mountain," entering the race with eight nominations, Renee Zellweger earned the only win for best supporting actress.

Not a losing night for Bill Murray or the film "Lost in Translation." Writer/direct Sophia Coppola's sly comedy took three awards, including best comedy and best screen play.

CLINT EASTWOOD, ACTOR: I don't look like Sean Penn, but I am.

CEVINE: Him absent, Sean Penn's director Clint Eastwood thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for naming Penn best actor in his movie "Mystic River." The same film earned Tim Robbins best supporting actor.

In the best actress categories, Charlize Theron won for her gritty performance in "Monster."

CHARLIZE THERON, ACTRESS: This is insane.

CEVINE: Diane Keaton's comedic performance in "Something's Gotta Give" brought her first win in more than 25 years.

Some big names in film won on the TV side this year, including Meryl Streep and Al Pacino for the HBO miniseries "Angles in America," which landed five heavenly statues.

(END VIDEOTAPE) WHITFIELD: Well the stars can't rest on the laurels for too long since the Academy Award nominations come out tomorrow morning.
