FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: The storm is causing problems all throughout the East Coast, both in the air and on the ground.
Our Bill Prasad is live in Washington, where the District has had its share of snow and ice.

And, Bill, I wonder, for those who dare, who is the commute this morning?

BILL PRASAD, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Fredricka, this morning my drive to work was treacherous. The rain kept on freezing on the windshield.

We have 23 degrees here in Washington this morning. It's all part of a winter mess that stretches from Georgia all the way to Pennsylvania. So far, this winter storm has been blamed for at least 35 deaths nationwide since Sunday, most of them occurring in traffic accidents.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

PRASAD (voice-over): A deadly storm collides with the eastern part of the country, coating roads with sheets of ice. In Nebraska, four people were killed in an accident, including children.

The problem is ice and freezing rain. In Georgia, firefighters battle a blaze started when a tanker slid off the highway.

In Tulsa, watch as a car slams into a pickup. Its driver had gotten out to help a stranded motorist. He's almost hurled off a bridge.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You need a four-wheel for this. This is really bad.

PRASAD: A series of winter storms from the Plains to the East Coast, from the Great Lakes to Dixie, is wreaking havoc. The Coast Guard rescues 14 men trapped on a fishing boat in Ohio. In Massachusetts, more fishers rescued.

Others are stranded in airports. The storm forces hundreds of cancellations and delays. Today, travelers will try to figure out how to get to their destinations.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I spent the night here, and I found out at 3:00 a.m. that my flight was cancelled again.

PRASAD: In Washington, the government digs out of six inches of snow. The storm forced President Bush to take a motorcade back to Capitol Hill instead of a chopper ride from Andrews Air Force Base. The chief executive, like most of the country, is battling a stubborn winter storm that has worn out its welcome.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

Here in D.C., we're expecting more freezing rain. In other parts of the country they're expecting more snow, as another dangerous weather system moves in.

We're live in Washington this morning. I'm Bill Prasad.

Fredricka -- back to you.

WHITFIELD: All right, thanks a lot, Bill.
