LARRY KING, CNN ANCHOR: Senator Joe Lieberman at his headquarters, he is going to finish fifth tonight. He's getting about 9 percent of the vote. Right now, it's running, as you see up on the screen, Kerry, Dean, Clark, Edwards, and Joe Lieberman, and we'll hear a little of the remarks of the senator from Connecticut, the former vice presidential nominee of his party, who had the tough blow when Al Gore endorsed Governor Dean.
Let's hear some of the remarks of...

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I present to you a man of integrity and character, who will lead this country for many years to come, Senator Joe Lieberman!

KING: The senator from Connecticut.

SEN. JOSEPH LIEBERMAN (D), CONNECTICUT: Thank you.

(APPLAUSE)

Hey, let me ask you this: Is New Hampshire a great state or what?

(APPLAUSE)

You bet it is.

Based on the returns that we've seen tonight, thanks to the people of New Hampshire, we are in a three-way split decision for third place.

(APPLAUSE)

Now, you and I both know that the national pundits didn't expect this, did they?

AUDIENCE: No.

LIEBERMAN: As a matter of fact, the national newspaper put four of the candidates on their front page, not me.

AUDIENCE: Boo.

LIEBERMAN: But today, the people of New Hampshire put me in the ring, and that's where we're going to stay.

(APPLAUSE)

AUDIENCE: Let's go, Joe. Let's go, Joe.

LIEBERMAN: Today, New Hampshire's next-door neighbor candidates, John Dean -- no, that's Howard Dean, I was close...

(LAUGHTER)

... Howard Dean and John Kerry received most of the vote, but the rest was split with no clear decision reached.

And let me put it to you this way: For us, this is more than a campaign, isn't it?

AUDIENCE: Yes.

LIEBERMAN: It is a cause. And we're ready to take that cause now to the rest of America.

(APPLAUSE)

AUDIENCE: Go, Joe, go. Go, Joe, go. Go, Joe, go.

LIEBERMAN: Thank you.

And what is our cause? What moves us forward?

AUDIENCE MEMBER: You do.

(APPLAUSE)

Well, Mike, I thank you.

LIEBERMAN: But it's larger than me and it's a cause we share. It is for a politics that puts the national interest above special interests or partisan interests. Right?

(APPLAUSE)

It is for a Democratic Party that fights as hard to defend our nation's security as it does to advance the causes of social justice and equal rights. Right?

(APPLAUSE)

It is to take this nation, too divided at a time when we face challenges in the world and at home unprecedented in our history, and make us again one nation under God -- that is our cause.

(APPLAUSE)

It is the cause of the American Dream, the promise of America...
