CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: Well commuters in parts of the northeast are dealing with snow this morning as the region's cold war goes on. Cold war, what a pun.
CNN's Sean Callebs joins us now live from Boston.

How's it looking out there, Sean, good morning?

SEAN CALLEBS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, Carol, if you had listened to most forecasters, right now I should be standing in three to eight inches of snow. But as we all know, predicting the weather is far from a perfect science and nary a flake has fallen in the city of Boston.

But people in this region have good reason to prepare, because a storm bearing down on this area has certainly left its mark elsewhere.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

SEAN CALLEBS, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): The warnings for many and the northeast forecast ominous. In Connecticut, citizens are simply winter weary.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It's been such a freeze, all this, for several weeks now. I hope that this will be the end of it.

CALLEBS: They brace for at least half a foot of snow in Boston, but the snowfall simply didn't come overnight. Still, a healthy glaze of ice had travelers stuck on Nantucket Island.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Very frustrating. We can go to Mars but we can't leave Nantucket.

CALLEBS: The storm that threatened the northeast carved its way through Michigan and Ohio. Check this out. In Columbus, a snowplow clearing streets brings a wall of snow down on a pedestrian. Then another plow comes through further burying him. He was able to walk away. However, as many as 50 people have been killed from the fierce winter weather.

The Carolinas, not used to snow and ice, suffering through a miserable few days. Tree limbs and power lines are over burdened by ice, cars slipping and sliding and residents there watching the thermometer and hoping it creeps above freezing.

(END VIDEOTAPE) And while legions of people across the country are still without electricity at this hour, this area of New England counts itself among the lucky. And the people of Boston can only hope the promise of snow continues to skirt the city.

Live in Boston, I'm Sean Callebs. Carol, back to you.

LIN: All right. Thanks, Sean, stay warm.
